“We will never leave you alone”: European leaders visit Kyiv to show support for Ukraine

The leaders of Poland, Slovenia and the Czech Republic visited Kyiv on Tuesday to demonstrate their support for Ukraine amid Russia’s invasion.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša and Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala are the first foreign leaders to visit the capital since the start of Russia’s assault on Feb. 24.

“We will never leave you alone. We will be with you. Because we know that you are not only fighting for your homes, for your freedom, for your security, but also for ours,” said Morawiecki.

He also said the European Union should immediately give Ukraine candidate status and “more than this.”

The Czech Republic and Poland, both members of both the EU and NATO, have been among the strongest backers of Ukraine since the start of the war.

I don't know Slovenia's history, but I know that the Czech and Polish suffered under Soviet oppression so it makes sense why they make a clear effort to help Ukraine when the Russian government is trying to repeat history.

I think the president has highly tuned discernment and empathy. He can tell those that aren’t listening and those that are. This meeting must have been a big encouragement to the president and his people to have leaders come alongside him physically present and offer him encouragement and support.
