Q&A: Should we jail the climate activists?

Показать описание
In this Q&A video, we ask whether the climate activists 'Insulate Britain' or Extinction Rebellion should be jailed, since that seems to be what they're counting on. We also cover vaccines, and poverty, population, climate, transgender sports and a bunch more besides.

The Mallen Baker Show covers news, current affairs, science and politics. It aims to be independent, fact-focused and non-ideological. A rational and reasoned approach to some of the difficult issues of our time, including climate change, the Covid pandemic, and how we can best survive and thrive in the modern world.

My rules for comments in this forum.

You can post your opinion freely in the comments to any of my videos. I like to engage with people on arguments and issues. I will, time permitting, happily engage with comments that are polite and broadly on topic for the video in question. You can still post what you want but if you want a response from me, those are the criteria. If you want to preface your biting critique with an observation of what a total idiot I am, knock yourself out, but I won't respond to those comments any more than I would if someone said that stuff in real life.

Out and out obscenities and personal abuse will be removed. Posts that are just links to other videos you want to promote will be removed. People who engage in bullying other commenters will be asked to stop if I think they are making commenting here unpleasant for others. If they refuse to stop then they'll be removed from the channel.

This was one of your best Q&A's. Keep up the excellent work.

Poverty in the U.K. is not being able to pay your rent as the instalment for your 70” tv comes out at the same time 🙈

Just a quick thank you Mallen, firstly for answering my question, and in a reassuring manner.

There are laws against blocking public highways and vandalism. If they break those laws they deserve to face justice. A more fitting punishment would be to to have them insulating homes for a year or two. Perhaps the washing of roof solar panels. Litter picking and cleaning out water ways.

Thank you for your reply on my question on social media public forums. I fully support your response. I would call the requirement of adherence to a standard of best practice a license. Government entities would not be able to use unlicensed sites for official business.

Another good video, thanks, and I appreciate your transparency on the advertising income. The new set-up looks great.

I am an Australian. The Labor Party was expected to walk in but hubris got them and they went to the public with a very unpopular leader and a very very complicated set of tax reforms. The public rejected that and Morrison won by default.

Regarding the effects of COVID-19 vaccination on infections. The issue is confusion between infections and cases. Some people take COVID-19 very seriously and so are vaccinated and tested regularly, so all their infections become cases. Other people try to ignore COVID-19 and so are not vaccinated or tested, so their infections only become cases when they are serious enough for them to seek medical help.

There is a difference between poverty and destitution. The latter is generally agreed to be a bad thing, and is useful term. Poverty has much wider meaning, but a relative interpretation is reasonable.

As an Aussie I can throw light on the last election when Morrison unexpectedly won.
The Labor Opposition took a breathtakingly stupid policy of removing Franking Credits from those who held shares.
This would hit older people quite hard and these folks who Labor had to win went with the Coalition.

Yes if they break the law. In the time honoured tradition of protesters from Emiline Pankhurst to Nelson Mandela they won't mind going to prison for their principles sparing the rest of us their irritating behaviour during their incarceration.

Bring back ''Death Race 2000'' now that would be fun.

I like the green; very calming.
TBH, I find the half-lit face a little distracting. It sets me off thinking about how to do it better and I have to go back and re-listen to two minutes or so each time that happens. Might I suggest a reflector positioned to your right (out of view of the camera) to reflect some of the light from the illumination presently coming onto the left side of your face. Or a second soft side light on that side if you can afford the expense and think it's worth the increased carbon footprint. :)
That aside, it was a very well done Q&A. Looking forward to the three new videos arising from those other questions.

Should we jail the climate activists? Those in repeated contempt of court following actions that are themselves offences, yes. But the notion that climate activists should be jailed for opinions they express is the thin edge of fascism creeping into our political system.

24:30 I appreciate that you deliberatly ignored the made up term "ciswomen" and instead you just said "women"

There is a system where relative poverty doesn't exist because everyone receives equal pay in accordance with their needs. Unfortunately, history has shown that absolute poverty for almost everyone tends to be the result.
