Floppy Disk Drive Vs Modern Drives (and other drives)

See how fast modern drives are compared to the floppy disk drive. The speed differences are incredible! See the differences between the floppy drive and other drives such as the M.2 NVMe, solid state drives, USB flash drives, DVD drives and others too. Also, see how many floppy disks you would now need for a modern game. I'm sure you'll be very surprised!

I’ll always remember when the 5 1/4” floppy disk was starting to be replaced by the more reliable 3.5” disk, of one my friends at the university told me “That’s it, the 3.5” disk will be the storage of the future. No way it can be improved.”

I remember going to my friend with a 1.44MB floppy and taking 3-5 of his wallpapers on it to my computer, I had no internet back then.
I also remember downloading a single song in 5-10 minutes on a 56K modem.

Very interesting. I remember the old floppy disks, they were slow but we knew no better. Another comparison video could be on internet speeds over the years.

Ah the days of "Insert next disk" to install Windows 95/98 and you would need a whole afternoon, then the Cdrom being the thing to have and costing $500 +, we've definitely come a long interesting video.

Floppies are very slow, however I am using them again in late 2022. I have'nt used floppies with PCs in more than twenty years. The reason why I'm using them again is that I've bought an old music keyboard that has one. To transfer data from my modern laptop, I use a USB floppy drive which only cost about $15 USD. It all works very well but glacial compared to modern storage devices!

Nice video. Although, I'm surprised you didn't include Zip disk.

You have to admit, though, those stepper motor noises will be missed

And yet computers are still lagging today...
Hey Google, just what are you quietly doing in the background?

We've come a long way lol. Imagine if we still had to use floppy disks.

Could you cover information of all the different SATA versions in HDDs? There’s also IDE and PATA or something? So many connections!

I just wonder, if we had the same 3.5" floppy disks nowdays, how fast would they be now and how much data would they hold. Magnetic tape drivers are huge these days.

It would have been even more mind blowing, if you went back even further to casettes

Maybe 20 years later we would have something 200k times faster than M.2 NVMe...

You left out 5 1/4" and the 120 Mb super floppy.
