Augmented reality (AR) is widely available on today’s smartphones, but it’s yet to reach its full potential.
At AWE 2023, Qualcomm introduced a new feature of the Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform that’s designed to help devs easily transform their 2D mobile applications into immersive 3D experiences. It’s called the Snapdragon Spaces Dual Render Fusion feature, and it’s about to open up the world of headworn AR to endless possibilities.
Snapdragon Spaces Dual Render Fusion enables smartphone screens to be the primary input or display for AR applications. This makes it easier for developers to extend their 2D mobile apps into 3D spatial experiences without creating a new spatial UI.
It’s also history in the making: Snapdragon Spaces Dual Render Fusion is a feature that allows smartphone AR developers to combine multi-modal input with simultaneous rendering to smartphones and AR glasses.
With Dual Render Fusion, developers with little to no AR knowledge can add AR experiences to their existing apps with very little code. Plus, they can enjoy more control over how their apps will function in the 3D space. It’s the latest example of how Snapdragon Spaces is lowering the barrier of entry and helping developers embrace the possibilities of XR.
