She says i don't know if he's an angel. He is. An avenging angel.

I think that, as a child, he watched this happen to his Mom. He was too young to fight back, but as an adult he could.

Back in the day...if this situation happened and towns people knew about it...the men of the town would "handle it." NO questions asked!! Rarely, would that same person ever lay hands on that person again, period!! My Dad was jumped outside of a bar and beaten profusely and left for dead. LUCKILY, some other patrons found him and got him to the hospital. He lost the use of 1eye and several broken bones, jaw wired shut. Anyway, the men of the town found out who did it. By the following day, he (the beater) and his family had packed up and left town for good! Townspeople came together to help pay the hospital bills. Now, THAT is an old timers ways!! That occurred in 1968. TOO BAD we don't handle situations the same way today. A LOT LESS of it would occur!

Notice he didn't ask for the judge's or man's mercy, he asked for the Lord's mercy.

Thank you for this reaction. I believe that this song was designed to bring attention to abuse no matter who it is whether it’s a child woman or a man too much of that is in our country and nothing gets taken seriously when it comes down to this just an FYI, and in my opinion, along with being a survivor, y’all take care and be safe.💕❤️💕🫶🏻🤠

If you're a survivor of domestic abuse then you would love the man who saved her life! He would have killed her eventually, SO, BRAVO TO HARDY FOR BRINGING THE TOPIC

Not one Reactor has caught her Self-Defense element of this song: “that 12 (gauge shotgun) he was reaching for”

look at how many times a man is released from jail on DV charges and reoffends or their victim ends up dead vs How many times women ACTUALLY escape their abusers. Proportionally it doesn't end well.

This video is about Power, Pain, and Hope. Hardy and Lainey set it on fire. Great and talented artists. Lyrics were true...vocals awesome. Sadly, domestic abuse is all over the place. The justice system is so screwed up....These guys beat on women, are reported, get out after a few weeks....then end up killing the woman. In my opinion, this was justified homicide. At least there is one less scumbag on this earth. The guy in prison didn't ask the courts for asked God. Very telling....True man that wants to protect a woman....he was her avenging angel. My friend that lives in Nashville told me this was a true story about a friend of Hardy's or one of the other songwriters. Guy got 20 years....she waited for him...they got married. I believe he tours with Hardy now. I am from Tennessee, and believe me when your man tells you to "wait in the truck"....you know things are going to get ugly quick. Also, judge under the seat that is mentioned in the chorus, is a type of gun. I'd say if you had 10 cars on the road here....6 of them have "judges." Thanks for your reaction...enjoyed it. Eric Church is also great and so is Oliver Anthony....need to check them out. You won't be disappointed.

Thoughts... he was not a bad man, he was not an evil man... perhaps he grew up in a house of abuse.... as he knew what had happened to her without asking... he was a man who saw a need, saw an evil and acted on that need and evil. He was a man of faith (evidenced by the court scene bridge (Oh Lord have mercy on me was not asked to the court system... it was a plea to God) and visibly evidenced by the cross hanging on his rear view mirror... was his action legal, obviously not based on the trial, was it morally just.... that is up to each individual for you cannot legislate morality... but for every victim of DV, he would be an answered prayer... and for every man... the story forces the question... "what would I do?"
I recently picked up on another aspect of the acting...you can see the transfer of 'weight' from the weight on her as a DV victim... to him, as the reality of what he did sank in looking at the body on the floor... she has her weight lifted as she no longer has to live that life... and the weight of the decision he made settles onto his shoulders, heart and mind.
