HOW TO RECOGNIZE A DODGY POOL CONTRACTOR-

One of the main factors to consider when building a swimming pool is your chosen provider. There are numerous reasons why some professionals are simply bad pool contractors. Some are merely incompetent or inexperienced while others are actively trying to scam you.

You should always take the time to learn more about your pool contractor in order to avoid encountering costly and possibly dangerous problems down the road.

The most common ways to identify a bad pool builder include:

1.Examine their references.
If a contractor doesn’t have any references, it’s a huge red flag. Even if they have a lot of real-looking references, you should still take the time to contact these references and ask them how happy they are with the service they received.

2.Check if there are complaints.
Customer complaints aren’t a red flag in and of themselves (mistakes happen to the best of us). However, it’s better to stay away if there’s a huge number of complaints on sites like Yelp.

3.Don’t rush it.
Are they trying to rush you? Contractors who know they’re bad at their job like to pressure potential clients into signing a contract. While it’s true that successful swimming pool contractors often have a busy schedule (especially during summer), they’ll still never try to rush you into making a decision.

4.See if they seem professional.
Do they have business cards? What’s their website and social media presence like? What about top-notch premises and vehicles painted with the company’s logo? If they don’t invest in their brand, you probably shouldn’t do business with them.

5.Pay attention to their prices.
The price is suspiciously low. Swimming pools are difficult and time-consuming to build, so naturally, they can’t be cheap. If a contractor is offering a price that sounds too good to be true, that’s most likely because it is. Either the builder is incompetent, is using cheap materials, or is a scammer.

6.Make sure they are reliable.
A pool contractor who reschedules doesn’t show up for scheduled meetings, isn’t easy to reach, or otherwise acts unprofessional, is either irresponsible or overextended. Either way, they’re not the kind of company you want to be giving your hard-earned money to.

7.Appoint a reputable inspector to do spot checks during the construction and get the pool inspected before final payment!
