Uncommitted Movement Pushes Harris Campaign for Gaza Ceasefire

“We want a meeting with Vice President Harris so we can talk to her to get a commitment for an arms embargo and a ceasefire.” That’s the demand of “uncommitted” delegates to the upcoming Democratic National Convention, who have pledged to withhold support for the Democratic presidential nominee over the Biden administration’s backing of Israel’s ongoing attack on the Gaza Strip. We’re joined by Asma Mohammed, a DNC-bound uncommitted delegate with Uncommitted Minnesota. She shares how pro-Palestine activism has shaped the 2024 presidential race, including Kamala Harris’s decision to tap Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate over Pennsylvania’s Josh Shapiro, who recently likened pro-Palestine protesters to the KKK. Walz has also been “pretty clear in his support for Israel” but, unlike Shapiro and other politicians, has additionally demonstrated a “willingness to learn and to move,” says Mohammed, a Minnesota resident. Overall, she says, the choice of Walz has renewed hope for many in the uncommitted movement as “a reminder that Kamala Harris is different” than President Biden and may be more receptive to restraining Israel if elected.

If Harris fails to endorse an arms embargo on Israel and fails to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, i will vote for Jill Stein of the Green Party. We do have a choice.

Great interview! Thanks for covering this. Another important story that I have not seen covered in the mainstream media.

Don't count on it. Kamala Harris is a regular speaker at AIPAC events.

To everyone ranting and raving about not voting because they don't like Kamala for (I know, respectable reasons, I'm with y'all on Gaza), do you like Trump more? There are 2 choices, Kamala or Trump. Sorry if you don't like it, but your decision making is going to lead to one or the other winning. End of story. All this nuanced talk about Jill Stein, Cornell West, not voting, blah blah, I get the HEART behind it, but those points are irrelevant when it comes to going to the ballot box to make sure a facist doesn't get voted in. Yes the situation is complicated. I totally get it, and nothing is worse than the genocide occurring, but again: Either Trump will win, or Kamala. That's how it is. Sorry you don't like it.

I literally refuse to vote for any politician who does not go on record supporting an arms embargo.

Neither Democrats nor Republicans will change their position on Gaza. Thank you for all your efforts but neither side deserve our votes.

It makes no sense to me that Asma says "During the primaries 46 thousand Minnesotans voted, saying that they wanted the war in Gaza to stop, right. And we know those people may not even show up to the polls in November. They have no reason to show up if there's no ceasefire and no arms embargo by November." Now look, I'm still learning about all this but it seems quite clear that we here in the US are fractured af fighting back right-wing extremist psycopaths (along with numerous other places), and trying to prevent a gd civil war!

It is one million percent disgusting that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians and that the US has been supporting these monstrous, evil, and vile acts. I am 43 and registering to vote for the first time in my life because the stakes are so high - and this after still not fully recovered from a serious health and spirituality crisis in my life. The reason to vote - for Harris/Walz - is so that Donald Dictator Wannabe Trump and Project 2025 doesn't get a red carpet welcome to convert America into a war zone and then into some other twisted form of The Handmaid's Tale. We have to protect against that first, right???!!! Otherwise, what America, whose America will be here to do anything about any of these kinds of things???

I agree with her whole-heartedly that there must be a ceasefire and we must stop supplying arms to Israel. But not having that done by November (which let's be clear, I think it should be), does not mean those voters shouldn't vote in the election!! What sense does that make?!

I'm voting to give us more time to deal with the myriad of problems that plague not only the US, but humanity overall, in the form of our completely delusional ideas about how we should live on this planet (capitalism and all forms of fascism being top of the list). I do not support the concept of politics but it's the system I have to use right now, so I feel I must because I can hardly bear to know what's happening in Gaza, it's horrifying on the deepest level, and I don't want anything even resembling that level of destruction happening here in the US (or anywhere else ever!).

So tell me, what is her take on the scenario of them not voting and then Trump being re-elected (not saying their votes decide, but him winning because people won't vote due to what she's saying is the very possible hypothetical I'm arguing here)? Is the ceasefire more possible in that scenario? I just don't understand how not voting when you are a voter in this situation adds up to a better possibility of stopping the madness both there and here. But if someone thinks I'm missing something that would make it make sense, I'm open.

I have no hope they will stop genocide as that is this nation. But I do have hope we can force them to stop it

Voting for either party is a vote for Israel. Just a fact.

True, without a promise for a ceasefire, I can’t bring myself to vote for Harris.

Where is this movement when it comes to the Trump/Vance campaign? Why are they not pushing Trump for a ceasefire and questioning his policies? Why is there a double standard where the Harris campaign is questioned, but the Trump campaign is not. Please let us know if you have demanded a meeting of Trump/Vance and let us know what they have said.

They both already called for a ceasefire, back in March - but keep up the pressure. Aipac is out of control.

Excellent, Ms. Amsa! 👍 To financially protest the U.S. Government's harmful weapons policy, I stopped purchasing (and dividend reinvestments) any funds holding U.S. Treasury notes or bills.

If donald trump wins he's not gonna listen to our Arab Americans and those that care about gazans. He'll tell you shut up we don't care. Kamala and the democrats will at least listen and be bipartisan. So choose carefully and know that if donald wins He'll tell you to basically shut up and dribble.

Are you forgetting the Oct 7th massacre? Hamas has started the war. Israel is just defending their people. Please see the truth and declare that the Muslims have started all this. The story of Gaza suffering is real I get that. However the defence of “you don’t know the history bla bla bla” is NOT a reason for what Hamas did to babies, families in their own home. I cannot express my disgust of these Muslims.
