Wistman's Wood (Mystical by Neil Burnell) is a remnant of an ancient Atlantic rainforest which once covered 20% of the country along the Atlantic seaboard from Cornwall, through Wales and up to Scotland. Sadly, over thousands of years of human intervention, it now exists only in patches covering just 1%, of the country, including sections in Wales and Scotland. Thankfully efforts are now being made to recover and extend what remains - thanks largely to the efforts of Guy Shrubsole, whose book The Lost Rainforests Of Britain I would thoroughly recommend. Wistman's Wood also apparently inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to write one of his most famous Sherlock Holmes stories The Hound Of The Baskervilles.

Fantastic video! You described each of those photographers very precisely.

Because you didn't mention any woman photographers, I highly recommend Rachael Talibart's Tides and Tempests. Exquisite book. Seascapes for a change. 😉 James Popsys was a great choice as well, by the way. Definitely one of my favorite photographers at the moment with his super original blend of landscape and street photography.

What a lovely video Adam. The details and cadence of the presentation were perfect and your admiration and respect for fellow photographers came through genuinely. Thanks for purchasing tips as well.

This was a great video Adam. People I have not followed in the past. But you are a source of inspiration to me as well, so dont discount your own influence in peoples image making.

Excellent brief reviews of your favourite books. I’ll look out for some of those. I met Alex Nail briefly when he did an exhibition in Princetown, Dartmoor when he got the bug for hills and mountain photography. He also launched a collection of Timelapse’s on one movie which was brilliant.
Regarding Wistmans Wood, it’s owned by the Duchy of Cornwall and it’s been announced that Prince William plans to, not only protect the little rainforest, but to expand it. It’s out of bounds now but visitors are allowed to walk along the perimeter. From my experience on catching the fog and mist there, it doesn’t happen very often even when forecasted. Neil Burnell uses his skills to improve his chances and returns several times particularly in the couple of months when mist is likely to occur. I’ve heard the Mystical book is fantastic. His work is certainly masterful.

I've just seen this Adam, thanks so much, its so kind of you to spend all that time talking about Northwest and recommending the next one. Fantastic video - a few books I have, but some I will have to take a look at for myself. Imitations of Paradise is a superb book.

I have your 1st edition and both of your zines. I love them. I have both of Thomas Heaton's, Gavin's, one of James Popsy's, First man photography, Martin Hilmner, and a bunch of film photography books and old magazines. I love getting inspiration from actual books instead of the internet. I'll have to check out some of your recommendations...thanks for sharing.

That was a very informative video and some excellent photographers with wonderful work. Don't sink the ferry bringing all your books over to the island!

Adam! Thanks so much for sharing my book and for all of the kind things you said about it. I also really enjoyed Quiet Light. You are also one of the coolest photographers I know, and I hope we get the chance to hang out again soon and crack some beers together! My new book will definitely be just as good in terms of quality, and in my opinion, far superior and more interesting in terms of photography. Cheers mate!

Adam - the reason John Sexton's book is so high priced (even on used) is that it started at $200 for new. Its a great book, and I hope you find a copy at a reasonable price. Abe Books lists one at $89.87 (used) which is the best price I have seen. Thanks for pointing out a few books I don't already have.

Great inspirational video. If I may add? I'm quite taken by the most recent books by Bruce Percy.

Many thanks for the suggestions. Lots to explore and mull over there.
Images from a Limestone Landscape, by Andy Dennis and Criag Potton (currently available from Craig's website for NZ$10.00), is a book I have returned to again and again for inspiration.
