If the hinge has a bottom cap, and you have to risk damaging the trim, you might as well remove the bottom cap and leave it off for the next time. Perhaps not as aesthetically appealing, but I'd prefer the convenience over the looks. Also, in place of this tool or a nail you can use an old Allen wrench to pop the pin out. This allows you to tap with your hammer farther away from the trim.

I wrap tape on the bottom cap, then vise grips to remove it. Works fine

If you ever built squeak free door hinge has a non-rising removable pin this is the stupidest thing I've ever seen and if I had my way I would never buy another ever built door hinge why make something more difficult than it needs to be. Deeply disappointed with this product I don't have time to waste on something and there's no clear instructions on how to fix the problem I just needed a simple hinge to hang the door and you guys make everything more difficult for no blanking reason
