In this video I make a comprehensive introduction to the Sphynx Cat breed, previously called Canadian Hairless. Not a lot of people know about them. For those who do, they are either seen as ugly or as gorgeous.
As far as their personality is involved, many people think they are mean cats. However, this cannot be more false!
In this video, I talk about their fascinating history, followed by their unique appearance, personality, health issues and price.
I discuss about if they're suited for young kids or older children, about how they get along with other cats and dogs.
I also discuss their special needs. They can also have health issues and have a lower life expectancy than other cats, which are things you need to consider before getting one.
Also, their price is not to be neglected! They are pretty expensive cats.

We‘re getting a pair of sphynx cats later this year. Just so you know: in some countries, like germany, breeding sphynx cats without whiskers is illegal. It‘s called Agony or Torture breeding, as the cats are missing a vital organ and therefore have problems with balance and navigation later in life.

Edit: Nowhere did I say the birth of a cat without whiskers is illegal. You can't illegalize BIRTH. It says 'breeding' right there.

I’ve had my Sphynx for about 6 months now and he is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. If you’re on the fence about a Sphynx, do it. You will never have a more loyal, fun, sweet, and silly kitty. Not to mention they are the best snugglers in the world!

My Sphynx, Stella, is sitting beside me as I watched this video. She is 16 1/2 years old and runs the house- and her two sisters, a Ragdoll and a Rescued Dilute Tortie. I'm nearly 70 years old, and am ready for my next Sphynx. They are absolutely wonderful cats and perfect companions.

We have 2 Sphynx cats, one which came from a rescue organization and one from a breeder, and there are misconceptions in this video. They do not necessarily need bathing weekly, although they do need bathing. Ours are bathed every 2-4 weeks. Too much bathing is bad for their skin. They are not usually oily, although if they get dirty, they can leave dirt marks on sleeping places. Clothing is not good for them all the time-they can get tangled in clothes and injured. Ours do not wear clothing other than harnesses when they go outside. They ABSOLUTELY CAN regulate their body temperature and they will snuggle under blankets or with the nearest human when cold, just like the furry cats do. Ours have coexisted with furry cats of all energy levels with no problems.

You may not be aware that you showed some pictures of Russian hairless breeds (Donskoy/ Peterbald) throughout the video. Not all hairless cats are Sphynx cats. Also, they don't need to be bathed as often as you say in your video. Breeders will commonly recommend bathing them every 1-2 months, which helps the skin stay more balanced so the cats don't over-produce oils and end up with a build-up of sebum. For any new or potential owners reading, I bathe my sphynx once every 2 months or so and I will wipe her skin with chlorhexidine wipes intermittently when she is looking dirty. This has been working really well for the past couple of years! Also, glad you touched on the fact that these cats are some of the most sweet and loving cats out there. I think they have a false reputation for being mean and that just isn't the case.

Cat clothing for winter? Ha! My sphynx absolutely hate it. Their workaround - more sleeping under blankets with human, more cuddling (and we speak about cat that like to cuddle even when there are +35C outside without AC)... And opening something suspiciously similar to black hole for food.

I lived with a breeder. Sphinx cats, if taken care of average 14 years. A good, high quality cat has some fuzz on the nose, and back of the ears. They are very loving cats, and very intelligent. I used to take one of mine for walks wearing a harness. She loved being outside, and never had skin problems. To clean them, wipe them down with baby wipe towels. You will need to trim their claws. We had about 100 adults. They are wonderful cats. I will say the tend to pick one person to be their human.
