The reason people wake up early for summit attack is because the sky is clearer. when the sun is out and it gets hotter, it will get cloudy.

The fog is my biggest fear on long hikes where you can’t really predict how the weather will turn haha. Beautiful views!

I’ll be hiking the subashiri trail in September! I couldn’t get a reservation at a higher station so I’ll be staying at Taiyo-kan (7th station). Gotta long trek in the early hours to the summit but it will be worth it! (Hopefully haha)

Just do it while you can. I did it overnight for Hatsumode but will likely never be able to do so again after injuries to both left and right meniscus. Nowadays, I do hiking in Izu but suffer when I do long hilly hikes. I used to do Mt. Jimba traverse across to Mt. Takao in winter after a snowfall but suffer on the second leg when my knees start hurting badly. Do it!!

Thanks so much for making this video. It’s very helpful for me! Just a question - can you share how long did it take you to get down back to the subashiri trail head and what time did you get there? Trying to see if we can make it out for a connection to Osaka right after the hike

what equipment sdid you shoot this beautiful video on? (if it's an iphone which model) and did you need a mic?

Any suggestions on which wbesite to use for the night of accommodation on this trail?
I'm really struggling with the booking system. Yamatan does not allow me to get through to the page where you choose your bed and pay etc.... it looks like a bug. did you notice what happened to the hikers who could not book a room - did they really spend a night outside?!

Thanks for posting, very informative.
I am heading to Japan in July and would like to hike to the summit. Are the weather reports helpful in terms of planning a couple days out or is just luck? What would be your estimate for someone planning not to stay in one of the overnight huts but hike straight through taking pit stops at the various stations? Everything have read state you don't get any sleep as it is too loud and tightly packed sleeping accommodations. Also, was your return via the Subashiri Trail or Gotemba which references the sand trails.

This is a great video- I was wondering, how did you go about making a reservation for the hut you stayed in? Is there a particular website you can go to or is it best to call and make a booking? Thanks!

Amazing video! Thank you so much! I'm going to Japan on august, and plan to Hike Mr. Fuji, however, i just found room in the Setokan Hut (Subashiri Trail - 2700m) Do you think it's safe to rest there, and then go to the summit, in a 2-day trip? I heard that from Setokan Hut take more 5.5h to the summit. We're a group of 4, everyone in great physical conditions, however, i wonder if it's safe to climb so long at night. Would it be risky to get lost, or something else?

Did you stay in Fujiyoshida or Gotemba? I’ll be in Tokyo the preceding days before and I’m exploring the most cost-effective way to do this. Although I guess I could just take the train from Tokyo and then stay the night on the mountain? Either way, looks like I’ll be going thru Fujiyoshida. Just debating if I wanna split everything up since it’s about three hours train ride from Tokyo and do the hike the next day. Thanks :)

Did you stay in the Taiyokan hut?
Also the trek seemed pretty lonely, I will be trekking alone but would prefer seeing other people trek too. TIA.

Hi I have a question... When booking your transport via bus from Tokyo to Gotemba, then the mountain bus from Gotemba to the 5th station, do you have to put in an exact return time? Or is it an open return? Also, do you think it's possible enough to do this hike in one day? I do a lot of hiking already but want to be certain as I may be going alone. Thanks :)

What time of year did you do this hike? And do you know the name of the hut you stayed at? My friends and I are currently planning our visit for July. Thanks!
