I never found the French to be rude. In fact they were lovely.

Parisians are stressed and always on a defensive position. It must be said that when you walk in the streets, you are often solicited. So when you smile to someone in Paris, he thinks that you are going to ask him for something, like money, or sign a petition, or try to sell him something etc. In short, the first reaction of a parisians is to frown and put themselves in a position of refusal. But elsewhere in France, people are much much more relaxed !

No. No the French are occasionally direct but there’s a lot of indirect comms / diplomacy / politesse.

The _Dutch_ are direct 😂

thank you so much for that! I actually agree with that philosophy. I did not realize having never been to France that that is why they are perceived to be cold.

Frank, blunt, straightforward, and above all truthful for the French, correct?
Likewise for the Germans, Italians, Russians, etc.

I think smiling is a common thing in the western hemisphere, regardless of how different cultures there may be. I love it.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha
I had to learn that after moving here. French strangers look at you as if you’re going to jump on them or something!
Even walking into a store, giving the sales associate a smile, they get scared!!!! 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆

Dans ma ville, il est au contraire très poli de sourire, c'est juste à Paris.

Any country as a whole that doesn't smile is generally cold & unwelcoming, then in turn are untrustworthy. This is why i became extra selective of where i traveled.

I will never understand why France gets so much hate for being """rude""" when the Germans are 100% more brutally honest and in your face but nobody says they're rude

I can't imagine thinking so highly of myself that smiling at someone is a form of respect lighten up people its not money its moving a muscle on your face.
