Actually played this game a while back, some of the puzzles have been rather challenging but fun to solve, would reccomend :)

My theory is that when you equip the camera and take a photo. It does not just take the 2D form of the photo but also copy the entire 3D space ahead of you.

When you move the photo somewhere, align it and the bring it out to reality, the entire 3D space you just copy will pasted in front of you and somehow loaded in an incredible speed so that you won't feel the 'loading' part.

Anyway, it is still a very good concept and I will try it.
