Mass Hysteria And The Dancing Plague Of 1518

The dancing plague of 1518 is one of the most bizarre events in history. In the city of Strasbourg over 400 people were caught up in the epidemic, dancing uninterrupted for weeks until they either collapsed from exhaustion or died.

But why did people suddenly lose control of their bodies, and why don't we have dancing epidemics anymore?

Stress, anxiety, little/no life satisfaction (mostly economically weaker sections of the society)

This has happened in modern history also. It took place in the 1980s in Bomont, Oklahoma. The person who started it was a you man named Ren McCormack who had moved to town from Chicago. They even made a documentary movie about it called Footloose..
