"Turn On Your Lovelight" was one of the longest versions of that song ever played, clocking in at almost 38 minutes. During that song an audience member (who was most likely on drugs) randomly came onto the stage and started telling the audience about the great lake. After the man's speech, the Dead played on as if nothing had happened. This man is now referred to as the unknown gleef

Love this band. I have been a fan of this group since I was a child. My dad played them all the time. we got stoned to this sound happy days.

This is absolutely stunning. Never seen/heard this footage before. What a glorious, historic, priceless treasure. Hope it can stay up on YT. Thanks a billion for posting. TC nicely audible. Classic Dead double drumming from the era.

They wouldn't allow this to be released forever! People have died who wanted to see this but didn't live long enough.

Dude at the beginning is like the Forest Gump of psychedelics. Just ends up in epic places, completely anonymous, zonked out of his gourd.

Jerry and Bob rocking out over Phil's booming bass from 24:30 to 26:30 was great. Bobby & Ron's vocals into the end were cool too.
TC keyboards and of course, Bill and Mickey on drums carried the beat
I wish the lighting was better but I loved it

I love the random dude rapping at the beginning. I like that they kinda just let him do his thing for about a straight minute before they really got into the song. Really ads to the performance.

yeah, so i thought the last word on the grateful dead's woodstock set was that it was lackluster and plagued with tech issues, but helll, this swings! that garcia interlude from 18:00 to 20:00 is fantastic. even that fool at the beginning was okay and kind of charmingly idiotic even, if you view it as a document of the times.

Pig would do these little 'raps' on certain tunes- Good Lovin', Lovelight, Katie Mae. The band lost quite a bit when he was no longer able to tour (sniff, sniff)...

If only Pennebaker had filmed Barton Hall '77!
How sad that this was the last time he filmed them.

This dark stage shows how primitive stage lighting was in late 60’s despite the legendary Chip Monck being involved in this Woodstock show

Hard to believe after 55 years no one has been able to identify the 'guest singer' on stage. No, it's not Ken Babbs.

Epic. And at the time they were a band for
“only” 4 years?

I always heard the equipment failed on them which is why they weren't in movie.

So this is the great documentarian Pennebaker! I could have filmed the band better if I
was blind drunk. Can't imagine he couldn't get good stage access if some unknown
person could grab the mike & yap aimlessly for much too long with nothing to say.
Gets better towards 20 min mark, but nothing like the camera work on so many other
bands on that helicopter day; think Sly, The Who, CSN, Airplane, damn near everyone.
Maybe that's why the Dead didn't want to be included in the film release.
