Have you played the original Imhotep? What are your favorite strategies?

At around 14:00, you should not have gotten the #9 tomb tile, since there were only two meeples in the row. The meeples always move all the way into the boat, as far as possible, closing all gaps. So if there are only two meeples, it’s always the tile closest to the harbor that gets trashed.

Thanks for uploading, I love your playthroughs!

I believe you did a mistake with drafting the tiles, based on the rulebook (p. 4), you start unloading the boat from the back starting with the meeple closest to the boat. However, if there is a gap in that particular row or column, the next meeple takes the second tile on the boat and no one takes the tile closest to the board. For example, at 13:35, the two black meeples would take the two temple tiles and the tomb tile would not be drafted. I think this adds even more to the strategy (and tenseness!) of the game!

At 13:55 I believe you should have offloaded the two furthest right cargoes for black, not the first and third.

It's interesting how the only different mechanic between the original and The Duel is the 2D worker placement versus the 1D worker placement in the original, yet the games feel completely different when you actually play them. They ultimately both derive their tension from the timing and order in which the ships are unloaded, but The Duel feels more like gaining positional wins as possible while the original feels more like giving your opponents as many undesirable options as possible. I guess that's because in the original the unloading order just determines everyone's action order on a single action area, while in The Duel the unloading order also determines which action area(s) you get to interact with, not just the order. Reshuffling mechanics can clearly create a whole new game. If they had slapped a different theme on The Duel, I would never even have thought to compare the two.

Had this game but it feels bone dry in terms of theme Vs mechanics, the big blocks were a real charm in the original.
