Ruined Side Table or is it a Plant Stand

This ornate side table was painted black many years ago and my husband used it in his man cave. I decided to try to give the ruined and heavy painted table a new look. What I didn't know was the black paint fought back. It took few days to remove the paint because it was so thick and in every crevice of the carvings and also underneath. After all the hard work of removing the black paint, the oak wood underneath was beautiful. I did a little research on the table to get some information about it. It's a Victorian Oak Side Table made between 1900 - 1909, an antique.

Very pretty now. The shellac does a better job of enhancing the color than had it been varnished, like the original finish. I'm not a fan of oak, but a refinished piece of oak can look better than the original. This one does.
