Fun video. I have been a scholar of the La Folias for over 20 years as a violinist. So many different styles and interpretations. They have given me endless joy playing and performing them over the years.

Thank you for posting on the Follia and it is lovely to hear you play the Corelli with those transitional chords explained.

I play Fernando Sor’s theme and variations on this. First learned it in 1977 while studying Classical Guitar. I still play it on a semi regular basis maybe five times monthly. Love this analysis of it!

Love it! My personal favorite are the 26 variations on La folia di Spagna by Antonio Salieri.

Thanks so much!! I especially love the Geminiani La Folia. At one point the violin becomes abstract and percussive (the madness!) How about the chord progression of Passamezzo Moderno Recercada Segunda (Diego Ortiz)? It's really cool, the unexpected Flat 7th chord. Has it been used in Hollywood or pop music? If people haven't heard it, check out the Apollo's Fire version on YouTube.

A Folia - was created in Portugal in the 1500’s
….italian composers have used it extensively and re-sppelling it La Follia.
The origin comes from people having a crazy good time in the streets in popular celebrations..hence the folie 🤪

Bernardo Pasquini's "Partite sopra la Aria della Follia Espagna" does some wonderful things with this.

I guess some call Handel's rather famous Sarabande (in d minor from HWV 437) call it "Handel's folia." That is my favorite as well. In fact, that piece (the Sarabande) is a bit of an obsession of mine.

Thank you for the video. 😃

The music you played was familiar especially the Handel, yet I have never heard of this progression. I will now explore further and take a listen to the Vivaldi version
