AWESOME Retro Linux Terminal Emulator - cool-retro-term

cool-retro-term is a terminal emulator which mimics the look and feel of the old cathode tube screens. It has been designed to be eye-candy, customizable, and reasonably lightweight. To access menu and settings just right click enywhere on the terminal. Check out Profiles for all the themes.

My son thinks the futuristic theme looks like Star Wars. It's SHIFT + RT_CLICK for the menu - you will need this if you switch to full screen mode (highly recommended !). It's a pity about the problems with dark themes on the settings dialog but I am sure that can be ironed out soon.

Back when everything was backed up on big main frame roller tape.

I like this terminal, even if it took me a moment to figure out that the settings and the main window had tabs at the top of the screen.

rather a cool idea. run the whole compositor in this style and have a scanline filter. similar to what people do with retro games in retroarch.

sad this ain't for windows. technically it is, you gotta jump through a WHOLE lotta hoops and even then its only garunteed to work 50/50. I tried and shame I couldn't I am really looking for one of those old green and black terminals for a personal project I'm doing. even one online in browser that doesn't do anything.

Lol looks cool but totally useless. Would be hilarious to see a whole distro built around these effects though, I don't see why anyone would but I wouldn't mind seeing it, playing with it, even using it for some insane purpose.

The old dogs are happy to finally have all the new achievements (autocomplete, syntax highlighting, window split, duplicate etc.) in the terminal... the young ones enjoy the stuff from back then... I can't get anything out of the glorified romanticism.

Too heavy, impractical. Pretty though, I could imagine this running full screen on a movie set.
