I highly approve of this model... She outperformed both cameras 😂

I went for the r8, because I like the ergonomics more and it has 4k 60 fps.

You real life tests are among the very best. I’m in the Sony eco-system (a7III & a7IV) and just picked up a new a7C (silver) with tiny 28-60 kit lens for only $1600. As you know, rumors have it that an a7C mark II is on the horizon.

FYI: Canon R8 doesn't have sensor shift image stabilisation, it only got digital which is done by cropping into the frame.

Digital image stabilization is very different from sensor shift stabilization. The R8 does not have sensor shift stabilization. The sensor does not move at all. There is a crop factor associated with digital stabilization.

The R8 is definitely a better camera. I was wondering if you were shooting tests using electronic shutter because I've never seen banding at any ISO on the R6 II (same sensor) but I only use EFCS and never electronic as you do lose some dynamic range.

Can't go wrong with either, but the fact that the a7c is 2 going on 3 years old and still being compared to new cameras says a lot
You can find the a7c around $1500(body) during sales and Christmas time. that's where I picked mine up at. some are going for $1200 used
The silver top A7C is just a looker and gets complements all the time.

The pricing of the A7C at stores like Adorama and B&H is $1800 not $1600

The A7C also has a 1.2x crop in 4k 30p.
The R8 doesn't have sensor shift. It only has digital stabilization.

No IBIS in Canon R8, so are you sure that your lens stabilization wasn't on for this test?

long battery is quite comfortable when you do an important job.

I've Sony A7c and I'm regretting buying it. It doesn't have touch screen operating system. All I have to do using dials and buttons. I'm thinking about R8 as my 4th camera.

The Canon R8 would probably be a big upgrade to my T5i Rebel. Looking for a better camera for video, I'm just not sure if I want to stick with Canon, but I am still considering it. I'm also looking at the FX30 and Sigma FP.

Thanks for the review, and IBIS how work in low light? Is better ibis or lens stabilization? thanks

Both are extremely capable. But I like the Canon colours just straight out of camera 📷

How does the Sony edge out the canon on the image auto focus test when the canon shoots way more frames and only drops 3-4 images? It won by a mile

I have the Canon R8 to replace my broken Canon 5D Mark III and since I already have Canon L lenses. It's sufficient for what I use it for, even without IBIS. Hopefully in the future I can upgrade to a better specs.

Does anyone know the lenses used in the video? R8 seems to use the kit lens, but what's the lens used on a7c?

I heard that the canon video files are quite hard to edit ....

isn't the exposer test the same as an ISO test?
