Job loyalty HURTS employees, so why be loyal to a company? Here's why you should NEVER be loyal to a job.

Subscribe for new videos every Sunday!

I know so many people (including myself at times) that are loyal to their jobs or the companies they work for. People often go beyond their 9 to 5, pulling late nights or weekends for work, and sticking with awful jobs instead of ever looking for a new job or thinking about applying somewhere else. And while this seems like it's a good thing because you're being a "hard worker" and a "good employee", you're really setting yourself up for disaster. As I explain in this video, studies show that those who switch jobs regularly make a lot more money in their career and are more competitive in the job market. Not to mention, you shouldn't be sacrificing your well-being for your boss or job. Company loyalty is going to kill your career, so stop being loyal!

What do you think? Let me know your thoughts on company / job loyalty in the comments below. Thanks so much for watching :)

I am an architectural drafter. My boss charges clients $175/hr for the works I do. He takes a week vacation each month and comes back in time for the next meeting with clients. He doesn’t know anything about how long it takes the work I do. I do 90-95% of the work on the projects, and my boss just comes in to mark things up which takes a couple minutes. My last three bosses have been the problem. Now I am leaving and starting my own business.

Always go into a job with an exit plan.

Very well said! There have been times where I’ve stayed at a job longer than I should have because of guilt. But then I remembered that at the end of the day, I work for a business, and that business is going to be open whether I’m there or not!

Jobs don’t care to fire you if you have economic problems.

If you feel a job isn’t for you, don’t feel guilty to leave.

When you realize that people from prior Jobs won't remember your birthday or anything else about you soon after you left, no matter if you had worked there for two or twenty years, it really puts things into Perspective... My dad retired after over 25 years in that one Job and he really fell into a hole of loneliness and an identity crises. I hope that won't ever happen to me, even though I know that I am way too loyal to the Company I currently work at. They are a great Company, but the relationship still is way too loyal and dependent on my part.

One thing I impress upon my daughters (about your age) is that a company will never be loyal to you if their earnings start to decrease. They will lay you off in a heartbeat, zero remorse if they need to. As nice as a boss is, they will be ruthless if the money stops.

Just remember that at a company, loyalty is a one way street. They expect you to be loyal, but when its convenient for them, they will terminate you without hesitation.

You are so right and young enough to do something about it. I've worked for 38 years at my company and that was my goal, it was respected when I started. I work for a company that was started and ran by the founders as one of the first silicon valley giants. The founders designed the company with employees being one of their high priorities it felt awesome, very rewarding it was a family, many people wanted to work for this company for 50 years, we still have some of the culture but it's quickly fading away, new managers who never experienced how good it was, don't know how to treat people, actually it's toxic today, it's sad and greed driven. I'm happy I got to experience the good years, but I should have left 10 years ago, being treated poorly has taken an emotional toll on me. Thanks for the validation, you are right, it is cold hearted, but that's because it is.

The ONLY time YOU should be loyal to a company is if you feel that they are loyal to YOU, really care about YOU and YOUR future at the company.

I was sucking at a job, but I’m a try hard that wants to succeed at everything. My boss eventually stepped in and told me to start looking for another job. Looking back, it was good advice. I should’ve realized that I didn’t owe them anything, and I was only hurting myself.

I guess that’s more of a self-obsession than loyalty tho.

this video deserves a million views... I was loyal to a company I thought might help me out through the tough times in life, just to get laid off TWO MONTHS BEFORE MY WEDDING! Thought if i put in the hours it would be worth it... wasn't true!

I really struggle with worrying about letting people down and/or burning bridges. I am probably chronically too loyal and it does suck.

Apj Abdul Kalam, President of India once said that love your job but never love your company because you never know when your company stops loving you

I consider myself to be *extremely* loyal to each job that I have, and I have left (on good terms) a handful of jobs heartbroken because I love my coworkers so much. So my initial reaction was, "damn 🙅🏽‍♀️". Howeverrrr, I decided she is giving us cold, hard facts. Nobody hired me to make a friend or look out for my life, and I really should NOT act any differently. If my job was a person (let's call her.. Ashley), Ashley would show me very quickly that she doesn't want me to ever hit overtime or not even an hour over 40 -therefore, no benefits- and doesn't care if I ever see my family for holidays. Ashley knows I bust my ass every single day that I clock in, but she has never changed no matter how hard I prove myself. She's got me connected with some great people, but our relationship isn't ever going to evolve. She would absolutely just move on and find someone else if anything ever happened to me. I would never keep trying so hard for a person like that if they are showing no signs of effort. Ashley and I would be cordial, professional acquaintances AT BEST, not besties. This was incredibly eye-opening and empowering. To me, that is the opposite of cold-hearted. Tyvm, Cara.

I just found this video and I completely agree with what you said in the video! I just finished up at a job yesterday and it feels refreshing to look at other opportunities, though also hard to decide what I want to do next. I had a coworker at said job who has been self-employed for her entire working career and said she felt nervous about putting in her two weeks since she's never had to do it before and because we've had a lot of people quitting within the last couple months. I told her she just has to commit and not let the fact that other people have quit stop her from doing it, there's no shame in it!

I agree. Every time I got to work I don’t deep clean my sections every day it’s to much especially since I only ever have 2 days out of the week off. I mean the people I work with are some of the only people I really talk to but at the same time like u said they can cut me off at any point so there’s no reason in working tht hard if I’m eventually gonna leave anyway.
