Today we're taking a modern look at the AMD Ryzen 5 2400G, one of the first Ryzen APUs available for the AM4 platform, along with the 2200G.

With 4 Cores, 8 Threads, integrated RX Vega 11 graphics and a solid price tag, this thing was a welcome improvement over previous AMD APUs. So how well is it holding up in 2022?

I use the 2200G I bought in Sale for 60€ back then and I still use it for games like FallGuys, Phasmophobia and Minecraft. It is perfect.

Forgot to add that the 2400G's CPU is roughly equivalent to the i7 4770K/4790K. While no longer a powerhouse, it is still perfectly passable for most tasks and lighter gaming.

I got it when it launched and it really save my butt from the crazy GPU prices back then, still going strong for what I need with only my Rx570 holding it back in some games.

Recently upgraded from the Ryzen 3 2200G to the Ryzen 5 5600X and its been really great processor for the past 4 years for me. The ability to play new AAA on a budget quad core APU on respect frame rates is just mind blowing. The AM4 platform is literally one of the best lineup that has aged well throughout these years

I'm just now replacing my 2200G with a 7700X, many years later. It was a great CPU and held out for so long but it's finally starting to show its age. You will be missed dear APU

This channel is a constant reminder that, as long as you temper your expectations, games can be played just fine on older and / or cheaper hardware.

I used to work in a PC repair shop and I once used a 5600G to demonstrate to a client that he didn't need to spend the $4000 that he had for his 10 year old son to play Minecraft and Fortnite. I think we quoted him $450 on the build.

Fascinating analysis. Keep up the good work! Keep doing what you are doing, the way you are doing it. I get so depressed watching a lot of content on here, this never depresses me.

I picked up a 5600G at MicroCenter few weeks ago for $119 a secondary computer. The graphics are only marginally better, but the CPU side is a massive upgrade. Will be interesting to see Zen4 APUs, since they will benefit greatly from moving to DDR5.

Pretty surprising how well this APU still holds up as a budget option for gaming. I wouldn't go out of my way to center a build around this chip, but for certain situations it could be a very good option for some folks.

Both Ryzen 5 2400G and 2200G came to revolutionize PC gaming using integrated graphics and they succeeded eventually

I still have this CPU as a backup just in case my GPU or other Ryzen chips have an issue. This was the CPU I used for my first Ryzen build in 2018 and the iGPU worked pretty well in most games at 1080p at the time and it came with Resident Evil 2 Remake for free.

What's also nice is that since AMD has been using the same socket for a while an upgrade path later on to a better apu and or CPU/dGPU is an option when you save a bit more etc

I currently using a 2200g with a Radeon pro wx2100. As not in to most AAA games it serves me well for Indies and older games

My brothers are still using 2200G CPUs in their systems but they have both upgraded with graphics cards their systems were built so they could play games and upgrade in the future which they did but I would love to see a video of how a 2200g with say a RX570 would play games as I've seen a lot of people with similar setup as budget rigs they built over time and I could see how newer games would run for my brothers as one of them wants to get need for speed unbound but doesn't think it will be playable.

I recently bought one as it was a giveaway price here in the UK at £30, had a couple of bent pins but i soon had those straightened out. I put it in my gaming pc with an RTX 3070FE just to test it and I've been pleased with it. My gaming rig usually runs a 2700X but to be honest I don't play much more than World of Tanks and Red Dead 2. Both games this cpu handles at highest of settings easily. I have not tested the onboard graphics to be fair (but i am aware they are a cut above the norm) but from a purely cpu point of view, its great.
