If you watch old videos of Elon Musk, he looks like a bullied teenager. Being bullied as a teenager can have lasting effects, including causing some individuals to become bullies themselves to regain a sense of power.

Public administration is a different ball game. You cater to the entire country as a whole as your decisions have ripple effects in different fields like finance, health, education,
agriculture, internal policy, external policy etc., which are interconnected, unlike the private sector, for which you need continuity and experienced personnel and need to be treated with dignity and respect. Musk will end up as a disaster.

You’ll know how bad it might get for the NOAA layoffs if the next tornado warning takes longer to issue alarm to the public or the weather prediction for farmers planting or harvesting crops or calving isn’t as accurate as it was before the layoffs. Cities might have to delay sending out snow removal or preparing for bad weather without timely reporting.
