Baby locks because my ferret opens our kitchen cabinets 😭 and lock every restroom doors and closing the pantry door because she will JUMP INTO OUR FOOOOD we love her tho

My ferrets are 100% cage free 😊. I decided the moment I got them that I would never force them to live in some crappy small cage that they would be absolutely miserable in! The only time they are ever in a cage is when we are in the car and even then it isn't for the whole time. My husband and I have suspended ferret hammocks from the roof of our van and they absolutely love it. I put a puppy pad down in every room of my place (I tried to litter box train them with the special ferret potty pellets but they hated it and would only try to tunnel and play in it) they are very good about going on the pads. They have a 96% success rate with them. I've noticed that when people cage their ferrets the ferrets are very aggressive, anxious, bite and don't like to be held. I believe this is because they are left in cages for way too long and are not let out anywhere near enough to play and explore and to just do ferret things. People make the mistake of buying these animals for their small children and then when they find out that it's not like owning a hamster or a guinea pig people shut them up in cages and never interact with it and then wonder why it bites and doesn't want to be picked up. Fe, rrets are insanely curious animals (even more than cats!) and if they aren't getting enough stimulation or fun time outside of a cage they become aggressive and resentful.

I zip tied tubes along my bed frame up to my bed so they run up and down that way, I also ran a couple of them under the bed and it has totally detoured them from just going under the bed, zero accident under bed since the tube city. One of my old guys does like to hide food in the tubes so that is a fun stinky game every few months 🤣

I'm struggling a little with our new ferret, Lucy. We have two small older dachshunds who aren't exactly thrilled with her presence so we keep them separated when we're not with them. They're getting used to her but it's slow going and only week two. We got her from someone who couldn't take care of her, he is in the Air Force. She's caged in a three tier "condo" while we're at work and at night but we'd like to have her free roam in a couple rooms. She is a sweet, busy little girl who was used to being an only pet but she's fine with our dogs. She play bites their noses (not nipping) and they don't know what to do with it. Please wish us luck. We love her.

Affording a ferret, just having a real pet seems so fancy and "rich person" to me. I could never afford a pet in my own life. I just enjoy watching people have and talk about pets.

My ferrets get the entire downstairs and the only problem we have is really our fault, If we leave a cup on the coffee table Doby will nock it over every time

i live in a small flat, ive not put my ferret in the cage much. when i go work i leave him out which is generally fine as he poos in the same area. the only damage he has done is to my bathroom floor as i once kept him in there. should i change anything up? ive only had him for a couple days and he bites my feet mainly, he used to bite my hands pretty hard but the past 2 days he seems to be better and not be biting to the point where i bleed.

1 of mine is obsessed with wires, he always tries to chew the led lights i have set up for them when it's dark, only powered by usb power bank so no high voltage, any tips to get him to stop this ? he does similar with his harness / lead, prefers to chew it and run away with it lol

My free roaming boys used to jump up the bedframe and then pull themselves up from there to get into my bed. I didn’t want that because my bed is in a corner and they’d find a way to slip under my bed at the corners of my matress (and there is storage underneath that they can’t get to any other way because it’s completely enclosed) and getting them out was an absolute disaster. The easiest and cheapest way to ferret proof this is to put big clear plastic lids like those from clear plastic storage bins in the sides (and/or head and foot of the bed) between your bedframe and your matress, making a bit of a ‘wall’ that makes it just a little too high and slippery for them to climb over 👍 Also a big blanket (grand foulard) over the couch/lounge chairs prevents them from digging into the couch/chair cushions or under the cushions… My best recommendation for a rug is actually a sheepskin or cowhide or deerskin. My ferrets absolutely LOVE the sheepskins in the house and they’re very safe because there are no dangerous (chewable) parts to them.

I can't believe ppl cage ferrets. This goes for birds & bunnies too. Plus goldfish should not live in bowls. If you don't cage a cat, don't cage those other pets!!!
