Just saw this show yesterday. Really enjoyed it and I appreciate discovering the Avett Brother's Music. BTW I added your review link to my video teaser reel.

This show is a dream for me and is the first musical I've ever followed from world premiere to Broadway. I've been a fan of John Gallagher Jr. since Spring Awakening and discovered The Avett Brothers because he spoke about them so enthusiastically in interviews. So Swept Away combines all of my favorite people and things. I've seen the show 10 times from Berkeley to D.C. to NYC. I can understand people not loving the darkness of the story, but to me the music, performances, set etc. are extraordinary. I hope it finds its audience because the cast and creative team has put so much work into this show for such a long time. I'll be heading back to NYC in December to see it once it's open.

I am an Avett brothers fan and that’s how I heard about the play. I’ve seen quite a few Broadway plays over the years and I absolutely loved this one! I have never had more chills from head to toe during any other play or film I’ve seen. I am not particularly religious myself, however, that did not deter me from loving this play. The choreography was amazing. The music was fantastic, and the acting was spot on.

We happened to see it at Berkeley Rep back in 2022 and liked it so much we went back two more times! We just got back from seeing the first preview on Broadway and loved it even more! You are right, it’s like nothing on Broadway and we hope it has a long run! Beautiful show!

I saw this in preview on Broadway. I was blown away by the whole thing. Love the Avett Brothers, the cast and the incredibly choreographed shipwreck. It's only 90 minutes packed with great music and dark finale. There is nothing about this show that I disliked. I hope it gets the huge audience it deserves.

My wife and I saw the show at the Arena Stage. We both loved it. Not sure why you say women might not like it as much as men. Amongst our friends, it is liked more by the women than the men. Furthermore, looking at the Swept Away "groupies", they are mostly women (we know some of them).

I also saw the show at Arena Stage and was amazed by the set in a way I haven’t been since I first saw Wicked. Beyond the set acting, singing, and orchestration all met my expectations… but the story itself seemed a little too simple and I wanted the Captain’s story to be a little more fleshed out (why did he end up on the 2nd boat if he didn’t want to be there?). I enjoyed it enough I plan on seeing it on Broadway to see what changes were made/ to see the set again… but agree it’s not a show for everyone.

I’m intrigued by the quality of the cast and creative team. Although I tend to hang on to my Broadway classics, I am a huge fan of shows like Hadestown and last season’s Illinois. Not sure the story is my cup of tea, but am excited to hear how the music translates on a Broadway stage. Just bought tickets for my trip to NYC in a couple of weeks!

This show doesn’t sound like it’s for me but I like how different it sounds. May check out the Avett brothers to see if I think I’d enjoy as I’m not familiar with them!

Never heard of the Avett Brothers except in relation to this show. I am keen to see the show if I fly back across to NYC during its run for the combination of Stark Sands and John Gallagher Junior. Was fan of American Idiot so Meyer also appeals.Won't be one I am flying for specifically though,

Doesn’t sound like my jam, but does sound like an impressive creative team. Not likely to buy a ticket anytime soon since there are other shows I would prefer to see.

I am not a fan of musicals or Broadway in general—just not my thing, but I am a huge, longtime fan of The Avett Brothers, and would love to see this show.

I attend Newport Folk Festival yearly but not really a big Avett Brothers person. I may or may not see it but will likely wait for the tour in a year or two. I love some of the creative team here so that might convince me to give it a try if my friends want to go. Otherwise I'll see you at Sunset Blvd!

It is a very white male centered musical that skews religious, which does not mean it's not good, but is something folks should be aware of going in. It is also very heavy. I love the reunion of the American Idiot team of Mayer, Gallagher, and Sands. I'm also a big fan of John Gallagher Jr. in general, ever since Spring Awakening, so it's always awesome to see him work!

I just saw it on Broadway and really disliked it. I was not expecting it to be such a religious piece. Definitely would’ve skipped it if I knew that. Also didn’t find the sets as exciting as everyone else. I thought they were very static and the transition didn’t really blow me away.
