Not sure why people are saying there is malware. The installation file, as with most pieces of free software, comes with the option to install a couple of other pieces of software, which most of us would consider junk, but not dangerous. Anyone who knows anything about PCs would know to read each step of the installation process carefully and not just click 'next, ', 'next', 'next', or 'accept', 'accept', 'accept', without reading what is says. All you have to do is decline all offers until the install is finished. No malware included if you don't click on accept to install it!

Most people having issues using Realtek HD Audio.. Help is here.

For people using Reltek HD Audio Input and not able to get any volume, You need to enable stereo mix from Control Panel on the record Tab enable stereo mix.

1. Enter the Control Panel
2. Click SOUND to configure
3. Tab to recording... Find Stereo Mix. Enable it.
4. Click ok and try it out. Worked for Me.

This worked with "Reltek HD Audio Input" on Windows 7 Professional.

Great video! Thanks! I have been trying to figure out how to make a training video of a step-by-step computer lesson and you just basically showed me what I needed! I originally went to this search to figure out how to record a video from YouTube for my workouts when I can't afford to use my cell phone's data plan. (YouTube eats through my data quickly) I did not expect to learn something so much more valuable. Learning to do training videos is so much better! Now I can't wait to get going on making them!!

I found a version I could download directly and it had no installation issues.  It was on CNET  (use little download direct not CNET's downloader).

This works good, but some real issues.   Uses tremendous amounts of disk space capturing uncompressed video.   I noticed this as it displayed the file size.  Even after compression using their old codec 40 seconds of video used 2gig.  After running through a converter at bit rate of 2000, this goes down to approx 5MB.

It works well for a short clip if you can compress it afterword.  I'd not suggest you turn it on and let it run on a tv show or something like that.  An hour would fill a 1 TB drive.

WARNING:::: DO NOT DOWNLOAD CAMSTUDIOS.  Im not sure if I am the only one but I had a really bad experience with the software. I downloaded it from the site specified and my computer immediately reacted installing other programs, Real player, and some Malware Pro program.  In addition the recording didn't work in any of my video programs, Real Player, Quicktime, Windows Movie Maker, HP Video Viewer, or Windows Media Player. I attempted to re-record and save the file in a different formats (MP4, AVI, etc) and continued to have the same issue. Also, whenever I tried to close out of the Cam Studio program, my computer would start flashing, the coloration of my computer would alternate every half a second from regular, to what can only be described as inverted. The only way to fix it would be to shutdown my computer. After several attempts to record, then view the recording without success, I uninstalled the program as well as any other program that came with it.

I take back anything positive I said about this software. Not because of malware but because I recorded live video and after doing a test record which was fine, my live video couldn't be saved. It told me I couldn't change the file name and both videos are gone! The test and the one I actually wanted. This software did not work and I am know disappointed in wasting my time but also not having the recorded live stream I was trying to capture.

It isn't illegal to record other people's things on youtube, in fact it is explicitly allowed. Look up the user megasagearchive, it is archived videos from another used where he quotes the terms.
