Kern River Fishing Report – March 5, 2025
Current Conditions:
Weather: Over the past week, Kernville experienced variable temperatures, ranging from highs of approximately (71°F) to lows around (33°F).
Water Flow: As of March 5, 2025, Lake Isabella's storage was 187,080 acre-feet, with an average inflow of 739 cubic feet per second (CFS) and an outflow of 303 CFS.
Fishing Overview:
Upper Kern River: Following recent storms, flows have stabilized, improving fishing conditions. Fly Anglers have reported success catching trout small nymphs and dry flies in size 18-120
Lower Kern River: The Lower Kern River has been productive, with water temperatures in the mid-50s°F keeping rainbows actively feeding.
Recommendations:
Locations: Focus on deeper runs and holes with good riffles between campgrounds for native trout. During higher flows, target areas under rocks and cutbanks.
