I was always too broke to buy anything, so I started hunting in thrift stores...all through my 20s and 30s I amassed tons of designer clothes, a lot of them had the tags still on. Cashmere, silk, linen and cotton were what I learned to find by feeling the fabric. It was like a treasure hunt and my favorite find was a 6000.00 channel dress from Paris that I picked up for about 9 dollars. It was incredibly tiny, so I sent it to my size 00 niece and it was her lucky dress ever after. I finally wrote an article on finding high fashion at the thrift stores and launched my writing career.
