AC/DC - 'Powerage' - The Strange Forces Behind the Album

AC/DC's 'Powerage' is considered by many to be the finest AC/DC album with its more introspective tone... But the truth is it is an album influenced by the music the band was listening to at the time.

The Best ACDC album for me. Amazing stuff.

With no disrespect meant to Brian Johnson, Bon Scott was the secret sauce for AC/DC. His singing and lyrics really made the band special.

I always though this was their bluesiest album, I don't think they ever topped it.
I don't listen to AC/DC a lot these days but when I do it's this album.

This, for me, is their best album. Love the guitar tone, Bon absolutely wrote his best lyrics (hardly any sexual innuendo there) and above all, the band sounds like they mean it.

Me and my late Dad both loved this album. Every single song is great. Kicked in the Teeth was his favorite, Gimme a Bullet was mine. Wish I could go back and listen to Powerage with my Dad while drinking bourbon and playing cards.

When I got into AC/DC (back in high school, early 1980s), cranking songs like Down Payment Blues, Gone Shootin', Riff Raff and Gimme a Bullet off of this album was an experience that I'm having trouble finding the right word(s) to describe it right now. I was absolutely hooked, and I had to buy a guitar and learn how to play the thing.

AC/DC played with an energy and grove like no other band could, and Bon was a poet and great story teller on top of all that. The combination of all that was just incredible.

Their best and my favourite. The last AC/DC album before their sound was tailored for the US market by Mutt Lange.

My favorite AC/DC album. 40 years ago I would have said either HtH or BiB, but after discovering this album in its entirety in the later '80s, it's been tops on my list.
Thanks, Barry.

Great review, and great to highlight such a masterpiece. Powerage has always been one of my favorites ever since I bought the LP in the 80s (still have it). What the heck: let's spin it now.

AC/DC played at my High School ( Sydney south west suburbs ) in 1975. I was barely 13 at the time and just remembering how cool my school was for having this up and coming band rock the auditorium.

I remember seeing them at Cambridge Corn Exchange on the Powerage tour. Hearing this album at ear bleeding volume levels was an epic experience.
