Are Infinite Worlds finally coming to Terraria?

Today I'm showcasing a really awesome mod that let's you change how your world is generated. That also includes the width and height of the world :) As a programmer infinite worlds are a concept that is entirely possible, the real question is will they really fit in Terraria?

Mod name: Advanced World Generation

We host events quite often, you can even join a Terraria playthrough public server when it's open!

The Calamity Mod is a large content mod for Terraria which adds many hours of endgame content and dozens of enemies and bosses dispersed throughout the vanilla game's progression. The Calamity Mod also features several harder difficulty modes, five new biomes and new structures, a new class, a new leveling mechanic, more than forty new songs, over fifty recipes for previously uncraftable vanilla items and other assorted changes to vanilla gameplay.

I'd be cool if it could just be a little bit longer, have some islands in the ocean, and then just straight up loop to the other ocean.

They could pull a starbound and have the world loop in on itself and expanding the ocean with more content and islands sounds about right

i am not a programming nerd, but i am assuming that the reason why it crashes when creating floating islands is because it tries to create them out of bounds. the reason for this might be that the mod increases the size of worlds, but dosen't change the layers. if that is the case, that means that if you end up making a very small world, then your spawn will end up in the underground or underworld. if you make a very big one, then space will reach the ground and harpies will be everywhere.

If that was added, the world will be laggier but if the world just generates when you enter somewhere you have not walked or Fly on to, that would be cool

Infinite worlds require a totally different system, in the game now they generate the entire world at once when you create it, but in infinite worlds it would need to be able to generate more world during gameplay which would require a totally different setup in the game's code

If we ever do get infinite worlds someone would need to make a mod to revamp the ocean, possibly just place a giant body of water every 10, 000ish blocks from spawn or something. That way the angler can spawn in, ocean fishing, sharks, etc.

if the ocean spawned the same distance as a large world, and we had to cross it, it would be dope with a mod that adds boats

This looks like hell especially when you consider how slow mining is at the beginning

even in an infinite world with an infinitely large jungle, somehow you'll still find the temple immediately upon entering the underground jungle and never find a plantera bulb even after sleeping for a whole month.

Already at only a 16 bit integer you've got a 5225.94% increase in comparison to a large world. Walking across a large world at 11 tiles a second on a high up s gonna take you around 25 minutes. With getting across from left to right ocean taking an agonizing 1 hour 39 minutes in the same conditions. In the 65k world falling at 35.5 tiles a second (default fall speed) you'd take a wonderful 30 minutes to get from space to hell in a hellevator. So even at this scale I'd doubt it'd even be enjoyable for the player, let alone a ""truly infinite"" world, would the work on the rendering engine even be feasible to even feasibly reach a number that one ups the current 65k. It's really cool technically and in the back end but I can't imagine having to use this for a any genuine play through unless it was a large scale multiplayer thing. Which I don't even want to CONSIDER the backend needed to get that running

I'd like to see infinite distance worlds with you spawning on an "island" the size of your original generation setting. The "island" would end with both oceans, or whatever version of ocean that you have with mods and that (calamity, for instance), but those oceans would continue on for a while until you stumbled on another "island". Maybe it would be the large world size, maybe medium world size, it just depends. This would loop for, in a perfect world, infinitely. Each "island" would have a different evil, so this way you would never have to make a new world or download a specific mod just to get everything. It would also be cool to see a few really small tropical islands sprinkled across these new gigantic ocean biomes. Maybe even some shipwrecks with new enemies/bosses like a kraken or whale.

as much as i like the idea of a infinite terraria world it most likely wont happen because of how the world is loaded

Makes me wonder how they would implement it if it were officially added.
Perhaps the worlds would simply loop, likened to other Terraria worlds being attached to the sides.
Or maybe after the oceans, it would become completely random, biomes randomly spread about and not ordered evenly like your normal world.
Or maybe it could just be completely random from the start.

I'd be interesting to see nonetheless.

An infinite world would have to have complete oceans. It would go on for a while, and then star to come back up. Calamity would have struggles with something like that though, with the sulfuric sea.

I like they way the underground desert expands with the world length, the *girth*

now you don't have to worry that something will not happen in the world

What we need is a mod that makes it so you can connect worlds together in a way where there’s an expanse of ocean between worlds. It would be so incredible, just imagine going across a huge ocean and coming upon MORE land.
