The normal turret seems to do better against ground targets and the laser turret seems to do better against air targets.
YOu might want to think about cutting insect meat out of their diets and using it to make oil and use a diesel generator to help substitute your power when the wind is low (Which will happen a lot)
Hunt the camel like creatures for meat if need be
