Yanis Varoufakis is a great person. His way into academia was amazing, I love his longer speeches and what I saw of him during his time as the Greek finance minister and his way out of active politics, he is also one of the most authentic, competent and honest politicians that I know and one of the few true Europeans in politics who aren't just using the EU for their personal profit, but really defend the basic idea of European integration against the pseudo-Europeans in the neoliberal parties.
Greetings from Germany, not all Germans share this antipathy for him and I hope that with a bit of distance to the events during the Euro crisis more and more people here will get that they were wrong about him.

Yanis Varoufakis is the only human being I'm aware of who understands money and yet has retained his humanity. I had thought those two qualities were mutually exclusive, but apparently not :)
