NASA, SpaceX Set for Crew Dragon In-Flight Abort Test

NASA and SpaceX are set for the final major test hurdle before NASA certifies Elon Musk's company to begin flying astronauts on their Falcon 9 rocket and Crew Dragon spacecraft to and from the International Space Station (ISS) beginning later this year.

Lift-off of the Crew Dragon In-Flight Abort test is scheduled for Jan 18, 2020 at 8:00am Eastern time.

SpaceX has already flown an uncrewed test to and from the ISS, and tested the spacecraft’s ability to abort from the rocket and launch pad in the event of a ground emergency, but now they will actually launch the capsule to demonstrate its in-flight abort capability, simulating an ascent emergency where the spacecraft would abort safely away to escape from a failing rocket during launch.

Amazing stuff. I get up early for work here in England as i make my coffee i turn my laptop on and the first thing i do is look for these daily updates. I want to wish SpaceX GOOD LUCK for their test on the 18th. What we all want to see is the U.S.A launching humans into orbit once again. It has been far to long for a nation that has achieved so many wonderful things in Space. Massive thanks.

I don't think what nasa is doing is right. I do like that spacex is doing some extra testing but Boeing got way more money and don't have to perform this test. !!!! I love nasa but the need to stop favoritism. I do get the Boeing has been around for a while but dinesores where around too.

Dear falcon 9..i remember a few yrs ago wen u hopped a few feet from the ground.. Back then u were Called GRASSHOPPER.. Few yrs passed u went to orbit n returned ur booster to earth.. Not far from now u gonna be carrying Americans to the ISS from American soil.. GOD BLESS U space X.. I'm lucky to be living in these times

It seems so obvious that SpaceX Dragon has been ready for a crew mission for several years---but tied up in red tape and circus fire hoops. A friend of mine has this really delicate keyboard, but his fingers are huge and often unyielding to the degree that typing is barely possible--that is Boeing.

Looks like this unit ran out of fuel. The fuel emissions flames did not shut off...it seems as if this mini spacecraft just doesn't have the fuel capacity...

A bit sad they’re getting rid of the rocket I think it’s their first rocket so flown like 3-4 times so far

I don't have money to go crazy, but my RC will soon be in orbit. A two-part RC vehicle that will carry a flying disc. Nevertheless, such films are needed for inspiration.

If your ready why are we waiting another 4 days??
Also funny that they are required to validate this when NASA hasn't used an abort capability in what 40 years? Over half of all human space flight?

Would be hilarious if the abort failed, rocket did not explode due to a pyro failure, the rocket then goes into a true ISS trajectory due to a glitch in the azimuth math, actually rendezvous with the ISS because the engines failed to SECO, and then accidentally docks with the ISS.

First of all, I have problems communicating with the vehicle.

This CGI of Earth and ISS just fuks me up and makes me doubt the ISS over and over again .I will NEVER be 100% shore if its true or not ...all ways in doubt and it sucks feeling this way .
