Oya is a Warrior Queen, a protector, a mother, and a force of transformation. In Yoruba and African diasporic spiritualities like Candomblé and Santería, she moves through the world in three powerful ways:

⚡ Oya Yansa - Yansa comes from “Yàńsàn-án”, a phrase that emphasises movement, speed, and change.

🌊 Oya Iyansan - Iyansan combines “Ìyá” (mother) and “mẹ́sàn” (nine) , directly translating to “Mother of Nine” a reflection of her deep ties to fertility and water.

🌪️ Oya Afefe - Afefe is the Yoruba word for “wind”, symbolising her dominion over the atmosphere and the unseen forces that shape life.

Each of these paths carries powerful meaning, and we’ve explored them in our these paintings. Which path speaks to you the most? We’d love to know!
