That’s not the story he told years before! He said they were in a strip club when the idea came to them. So either he lied then or he is lying now. It’s a YouTube video somewhere of him talking about it I saw it just recently.

The story I heard was the opposite. I have heard since the 80’s that the band wanted the girl cover. That the recording company didn’t because of problems selling it in K-Mart, Sears and such. Then an angry Bon Jovi went outside to blow off some steam and saw a wet garbage bag along the road and wrote “slippery when wet” on it and said there’s your cover.

Some of the parents wouldn't have let the young kids buy the album. It was better that they used the album cover they did. In that sense they probably sold more records.
