Why did sadness keep touching everything? Cause she couldn’t help it. The emotions don’t always decide what to do, sometimes they get this urge to do something and have no self control. The same thing happens with anxiety.

As sadness said in the first movie “i don’t know what’s wrong with me it’s like I’m having a breakdown”

The first movie was about the sadness of moving away from home and how that affects you, that’s why sadness kept touching memories. Because those memories no longer bring joy. You’re away from home now, you may never go back there or see your friends there again. That’s why, because those are sad memories. The emotions jobs are to help Riley, and they can’t help her if they don’t let her feel the emotions she’s supposed to, which is why Joy realized she *needed* to let Sadness let Riley’s sadness out. Sadness wasn’t touching those memories for no reason, and she wasn’t touching the board for no reason either. She was doing her job.

(Short note: of course the film is up for interpretation and everyone is welcome to like or dislike any character in the film however this is just some extra information to have a little bit of a better explanation about why characters are so dramatic and annoying) The reason why they were so annoying in the first film is because they wanted to show that joy and sadness are two extreme emotions on opposite ends of the spectrum, they were so extreme bc they were supposed to show Riley’s most prominent emotions in the film. The reason why sadness kept touching all the core memories is bc all of Riley’s core memories revolved around her old like and a lot of times these type of memories invoke a certain type of sadness, a bittersweet feeling. Sadness knew Riley needed to feel that bittersweetness in order to grow and learn even if she consciously didn’t understand why she was doing certain things. Joy on the other hand wanted her to say joyful and happy but because Riley was growing up her main emotion was no longer joy and the way she felt sadness evolved from surface level to a deeper level that could no longer be healed by joy but instead healed through feeling the hard emotions. It was actual pretty spot on to how people grow and learn to evolve with their emotions once they transition from elementary to middle school and highschool. The way we feel in elementary is different to how you feel when you enter middle and highschool our emotions become deeper and we become hyper aware of everything.

whenever i think of anxiety i think of like spiky and abstract shapes that clash with each other and bright colors with bold outlines ig just like very clumsy

I enjoyed this speed paint! I loved what you did with Fear's design. He's definitely the odd one out. But Disgust is so cool... it's so hard to choose a favorite! There's so much variety!
