There are as many gadgets as there are inventors with an idea. Some good. Some not so much. When I was an apprentice machinist, I was taught to sharpen twist drill bits on a bench grinder. Some of the apprentices had a real problem getting it right. Most hobbyists have the same problem. Drill bit sharpeners were invented to solve the problem of being able to hold the bit in your hand at the right angle and move a tiny bit of steel against a stone turning at 3000 rpm while dodging sparks and without grinding your fingers. Not so easy.
Drill bit sharpeners should be designed to hold the bit at the right angle and keep the wheel covered so there aren’t any sparks and the operators fingers are safe. When I found this B&D Drill Bit Sharpener I thought it would be interesting to see just how it works and why so many people have problems sharpening twist drills. 😊
