Some people argue that the Polar Vortex is evidence against global climate change, but there’s actually growing evidence that a warming Arctic means colder winters.

The actual difference between Weather and Climate is that you can't weather a tree but you can climate.

Let's just build a wall and let the polar vortex pay for it

When I heard Polar Vortex. I instantly thought about The Day After Tomorrow.

The key point is that if it suddenly gets colder for you, that's because cold air has suddenly moved from somewhere else toward you -- and that cold air is being replaced by warm air. If you're in the midwest and you're suddenly getting blasted by cold air, that cold air is coming from the arctic, and when that cold air leaves the arctic, it's getting replaced by warmer air.

The earth isn't getting colder on that day; the cold air is just getting shifted around. You're experiencing a slightly warmer version of what's normal for people in Nunavut -- and people in Nunavut are experiencing a slightly warmer version of what's normal for you.

To measure the overall temperature change of the earth, don't look at the cold air you're getting blasted by. Look at the average of every weather station thermometer across the globe.

Also, look at the change in overall ice mass and the change in the sea level.

Finally temperatures are displayed in Celsius.

It's so odd for us Midwesterners to be the center of attention.

Here in 2021 with record breaking cold in Texas and across North America but 2020 was the hottest year on record overall.

It saddens me that we STILL need to explain this to people. Thank you for educating the masses.

Yes, there are many idiots in the comments. No, you should not be telling them "go away, you don't belong here."
An educational channel is EXACTLY where deniers need to be. Their baseless claims against scientifically proven data aren't going to persuade anyone who is already literate on the subject, so there is no need to be afraid of them, regardless of how annoying it can be.
Stupidity exists. So let education do its job.

Weather is what clothes you wear, climate is what clothes you buy.

So you mean to tell me that "But it's cold!" *isn't* a valid evidence against global warming?

I feel bad that people need the difference between weather and climate explained to them.

I like that you go with degrees Celsius! 😀

I paused it because I didn’t want to be distracted while reading the comments

I don't even use the term "global warming" any more, because it confuses some folks. "Climate change" doesn't invite the easy pooh-pooh rejoinder of "oh, but why are we having record cold here?" It -does- invite an explanation of how warming in one place can cause coldness to shift elsewh... oh wait, exactly as this video did! Well-done, SciShow!

A lot of these comments were painful to read, it's unfortunate at how many people deny climate change. There seems to be a lot of benefits to stop fossil fuels & carbon emissions being released so I'm not sure why it's so frowned upon. Thanks SciShow for the informative video :)

Last week it went from a low of 5 to a high of 55 overnight in my state of Connecticut. Never seen this kind of weather in all my life...

I'm in central Texas. There are little frozen balls falling from the sky. It's not snow, it's more like tiny hail.

This shouldn't be happening here.

I'm scared.

Save me, science!!!

I know you said "QQ Inbox" but I heard "Cute-cute Inbox" and now I can't unsee an adorably cute anime-faced app icon.
