Ricoh Theta X Review: The Best 360 Camera for Photos?

The Ricoh Theta X is a 360 camera designed for shooting 360 photos which are good enough to use professionally. Unlike most other 360 cameras the Theta X is designed to be easy to use with little editing required, but are the images really good enough to use professionally?

The Ricoh Theta X can shoot 60mp 360 photos using auto HDR for super sharp images, but the sensor size is smaller than the last version. So can a higher resolution image make up for lower quality sensors?

I've been using the Theta X for the past few months to see how well it can shoot VR tour and whether the new design makes the camera easy to use.

Thanks for the review. Do you need the theta monopod to use it without editing or will any monopod work? What would you recommend. This will be purely used for virtual tours. I’m proficient in Affinity, Lightroom and On-1 but if I can minimise editing- that would be a game changer - many thanks

Hi exploring a number of different cameras, can you recommend an app that you can take room measurements from, stitch rooms together, be ables to get a 2D plan of a building? Does this camera work outdoors? I want to process the 3D data locally on PC and avoid cloud and subscription based services.

if a comparison is needed with theta z1, should not there be a night time photo as well?? it seems like there is only day time comparison with theta z1 and result is kinda final .

Ricoh says in their online documentation that it can't really live stream in 4K for very long before it overheats and reboots. They admit that this is really only stable in 2K resolution.

Actually there is a camera out there, which could beat the Theta X in terms of virtual tours: the Trisio lite 2.
