I would argue that there is a clear divide between Alto and Tenor saxes.

Alto saxes are spot on here, but Tenors are in the same boat as the Basoon. You sit in the back, and have to be at least decent at what you do, not because you'll be buried, but because there will only be 2 other Tenors in the entire band, and neither of them will show up when it's time for you to play at an event, so you have to be good because no one else will be able to cover for you.

As a euphonium/baritone player (if you play the baritone part, you're still probably playing euphonium unless marching), that hurts but is so true
