The intelligence shown in these animals is so incredible here, the way the Male charges in to attack into the fray and the INSTANT change in his body language even face, he recognized instantly it was someone he knew or recognized, likely his cub, no male lion would let a cub he knew wasn't his live, especially a young male, the roar to call the fight off was so instant, you can't doubt for a second their intelligence, teamwork and co-operation. From the way the pride male ran over there he meant business but then he saw something that we didn’t notice, it was his son from another pride so he couldn’t let them kill him so he roared very loudly and his fearless females fell back, just watch it again and see how all thier actions tells u the story of this attack

this male lion certainly has two families and this young man is his cub from his first or second marriage that went after daddy (missed him) But then his stepmothers attacked him like this because he was an unknown bastard. ..Thank God his dad saved him and he will certainly recover. Cats recover quickly from their wounds.

Its a familial smell to him, thats why he stopped it right away, and did not engage even after being attacked last time. Most likely a lost cub, or/brother cub

Interesting how the male attacks and then seems to recognise the young lion and calls out to the lionesses. Within seconds the fight is off. The obedience is almost complete. One of the lionesses still wants to attack but decides against it. The young lion is pissed of at the older male and but the older male stays calm. Impressive bit of leadership and pride obedience in display.

Update: on watching again, it appears the lioness one who comes forward at the end (with the collar) is the last to join the scene (apart from the big male). She doesn't really attack either and might just be making peace also.

The young male mum needs to ask for a divorce or an explanation as of why her son was beaten by the co-wives. I hope the young male will recover well.
