Yes I agree 36mm datejust is perfect for a dress watch while sports models must be at least 39mm to 42mm

Maybe I am caught in that trend of smaller watches or the fact that I have lost almost 40 pounds in the last 4 months but I really agree with you that the datejust and daydate are better sized at 36mm instead of 40mm. I have a Panerai that I am not really wearing anymore and my YM40 that is quite elegant but almost too big for me now, I don't know. I need to make a visit to my AD soon and add a mint green 36mm datejust to the list.

I have had a datejust 36mm since 1987 and a submariner 41mm. They both seem to be the correct size for what they are. I have tried on the DJ 41mm and I just think omit make the watch too flashy. There is nothing subtle about a jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel on a 41m. Somehow in 36 it is just more tasteful. The sub in the other hand it is designed to be highly legible, has a rotating bezel and brushed steel so 41mm works. I do still prefer the pre ceramic sub 11610. They just got the proportions correct with most of the Rolex watches pre 2000

I am old so I like the old watches. My watches are mostly between 34 and 39 mm. Mostly 35 and 36 mm. The rule is that you buy and wear what you like. My wife likes large watches. Over 40 mm. She likes watches I would never wear. I give her all of my mistakes and she loves them. Its a too each his own hobby.
