Roundtable: Body Image

Показать описание

On our body image roundtable we begin the conversation about how painful the inauthentic, unattainable, cookie-cutter norms have been to females and why mass culture accepts these (or any standards) that diminish women. We often ask our muses to tell us what they consider to be beautiful. Now I am going to answer what is beautiful to me: beautiful to me is Eve, Cory Kennedy, Venus X, Grace Lee, Megan LeCrone, Nicolette Mason, Domonique Echeverria, and Sara Ziff. Each of these women has the guts to set a new tone for what I feel is the beginning of a fresh paradigm — one that leads to palpable, not phony, token, empowerment. Diana Vreeland, Gloria Steinem, and Coco Chanel all wore clothes — clothes did not wear them, because their sartorial freedom and voices gave license to a needed change. Style and beauty is a self confidence that comes from a willingness to be as much vulnerable as bold, i.e. having vision and putting your money where your mouth is. The 21st c. is upon us — time to blow up what's exhausted and doesn't work anymore.

I had this resizing the sample size talk with a guy and he said that the reason why it won't happen is because the mannequin industry would have to adjust all their machines. This show that in our world people care more about the cost of a machine then the progress in body issues that affect almost every woman.

Great vid! I love your chanel :D

love this channel and the important discussions it brings to the table. an idea: a facilitator to help these conversation to be productive instead of just sharing their body image struggles (it is great to hear a women's struggles) could we think of some solutions as well?
love love love this channel
and im not saying every conversation needs to have productive solutions, this is absolutely a step in the right direction to identifying these topics and our experiences

I've watched about a majority of these round table videos, and I've read the comments, and I've noticed that some of the viewers complain about the lack of men who are present or the way in which these topics are approached. Pertaining to the lack of men featured in these videos: think about it: where we are right now in society, are there men that can actually express their thoughts and feelings the way these women have? of course there are those few, but there will be times when i will ask men what masculinity or in this case what their thoughts of these in depth topics are, and they'll respond with a mundane "I don't know." Also, when these topics are being spoken of, i like to hear REAL stories. i know it's a problem, and i want to hear how it has affected YOU. there is such a a feeling of surrealism when you hear of that girl who you deemed as perfect being bullied because of her body type. However, I do like to hear thoughts on practical solutions. And maybe that's what's missing: that masculine energy that'll say "Hey, this is what we have to do." Just a thought.

To the woman who was on the 500 cal diet regiment at 15... they probably did more damage than good as a diet like that can permanently slow a metabolism.

It goes to show that even if you're thin you are not happy. This has to do with yourself on the inside.

Or maybe that's what she wants to look like because that's what she wants to look like? Why should she stick with one look for 10 years because you would like her to? It's her choice. Let her be great.

I just feel if I can’t tell if you’re a man or a woman that’s a problem and I don’t understand why other people don’t think that’s a problem.

Great video!!!! - Oh yes, and thin girls get bashed a hole lot about not eating, being to thin, and etc by people when they can't control the way they look.

this is the second time I've watched one of these round table vids where only women participate, and again... what the fuck is supposed to happen here? These conversations literally lead nowhere, nothing gets accomplished and no real discussion has actually taken place. Instead we get excerpts from random girls lives and I don't know how we're supposed to take this... Is this just supposed to be some type of emotional femmy twist on a body dysmorphia? This is a literal waste of 18 minutes.

I feel bad for young men if this is the pool from which they find mates. This is a nasty freak show. God help you kids.
