How Greez Lost His Arm - Star Wars Explained Fast

In Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Greez has a mechanical arm. It’s referenced a handful of times throughout the game, and Cere insists to Cal that what happened to Greez was not his fault. But what *did* happen to him? The book Star Wars Jedi Battle Scars gives us the story. A couple years after the events of Fallen Order, Cal and the rest of the crew were being hunted by an Inquisitor known as the Fifth Brother. He knocked Cal unconscious in a duel, but Cere was able to capture him before he could finish the job. She attempted to talk the Inquisitor down and convince him to abandon the dark side, hoping to succeed where she failed her former apprentice, Trilla. Greez arrived to help, and his appearance gave the Fifth Brother the distraction he needed to break free and steal Cere’s lightsaber. Greez threw his body in front of Cal and lost his arm to the Inquisitor to save the young Jedi. Cal awoke and all three of them escaped the Fifth Brother together.

Even more reason to respect old Greez.

As if we needed another reason to hate the Fifth Brother. I also hold Fret responsible for what happened to Greez as well, she may not have swung the blade that severed his arm but her lies and deception for her own selfishness put the Mantis crew in a situation where one of them could have been seriously hurt and one of them was. Cal was nearly killed and Greez lost an arm. If you ask me, the crew should have held her far more accountable for her actions and the position they were put in because of her and the way they did respond to her was seriously out of character for all of them, *especially* Merrin's response.

I do like what the action says about Greez, he's the pilot and typically the one not in the middle of the action but he still threw himself in front of an Inquisitor to protect Cal, showing how much he's grown to care about him since they met in Fallen Order. I do like that and I don't think Greez regrets the decision at all but I do think it could have been avoided. When he talks to Cal in Survivor about losing something that can never be replaced, I like to think he is talking about his arm but also the time he almost lost Cal when Sorc Tormo abducted him over Greez's gambling debts.

I believe the decision to give Greez an injury that cost him his arm was a decision made from Respawn, it was clearly the reason he left the Mantis with Cal and the game was written first so the novel only worked backwards from what was coming, which makes me think they probably had some ideas how Greez was hurt that they gave to the author of Battle Scars so I would have liked them to reference a bit more why Cal feels so guilty about Greez getting hurt, because it happened saving Cal's life. That said, I love how heavily it was referenced to as it is, I just would have liked the game to dive into it more since it clearly impacted the entire crew. I would definitely like to see a story that explores Merrin in the aftermath of Greez losing his arm because I imagine she felt extremely guilty for what happened to him as well.
