I don't understand why Twitter can't just make a premium that revolves around no ads, emotes, text colours or even different badges? Why does it have to be the verify badge that he uses to get premiums? Something like Reddit awards or Twitch sub-emotes makes way more sense than whatever he's trying to do here?

i think it's a HORRIBLE business idea. it disincentivizes public figures from using the platform, and the confusion will cost twitter its integrity. they might see some short term growth, but in the longterm, that whole website's gonna wreak of distrust and desperation. people will be too sketched out and embarrassed to stay.

You mentioned the misinformation aspect briefly, but I do think that something missing here is the fact that a national election is less than a week away. This actually does matter, in my opinion, because we all know how much social media manipulation can affect real life outcomes.

Maybe it's because I'm not a creative or active Twitter user, but the checkmark has always meant "this is the person they are claiming to be". I had no idea people were so emotional about whether they were verified or not. It's always been a defense against trolls and spoof accounts.

Casual reminder that Twitter is on the lower end of the spectrum regarding active users, which means it's got even less active users than pinterest, just to put it into perspective. Despite this everyone acts like its THE most important social media Plattform and I just really dont get it and quite frankly, I'm also sick of it.
