I do like using them for learned and innate magic in some games but not always and not in all games.

Did you play (or witnessed someone playing) this system?

Pyramid Magazine #3/70 has a Monster Hunter Champion template, the Elemental Xia, who use this system. I really like the idea, but I'm not sure this system holds well in a 400 points game (which is the starting level of a Monster Hunter game). Any thoughts?
