Hi Rob, I'm Paolo Parolini and I think I' m the "nice Italian dude"! If so thank you for your kind words. I talk about the snare height on a video about posture on percussion. Actually in the video I demonstrate the explanation from a book called "The book of percussion pedagogy" by Cort McClaren. I always teach snare height to my percussion students using that content and the best thing is that you can apply it also to other percussion instruments (marimba, timpani, etc). So thank you and thanks to Prof. McClaren, bye!

P.S: super great channel, just subscribed. Bye bye from Italy!

Rob, as a word of encouragement to you. You have the ability to make the somewhat complicated, seem simple and basic. You my friend are a great teacher. Keep up the good work!

Hi Rob. I just want to let you know that this video has changed my life! After adjusting (raising) my snare height and using your 'fingers' method, I then went and adjusted the height of my high tom and floor toms (to keep the spatial relationship the same). Now, I can't get over how much easier it is to play around the kit, to get great rim shots, and to get a great stick-to-head angle with either traditional grip or match grip. It's fantastic!

I did raise my throne height a bit as well. Previously, the angle of my thighs was angles 'slightly' downward but also close to being parallel to the floor. Since I am a largely heal-up player...raising the throne height has not only increased kick pedal control but also allows me to better address the kit. Game changing stuff. Wish I had delved into this earlier in my playing career.

Thanks so much!
Coming from a marching band and wondering how to set up a drum set. All the confusion!
But you helped me, especially as you are playing both, traditional and matched.
Thanks a bunch.

Thank you. I started playing drums at age 53! I played a couple of years back in the late 80's but didn't take it super seriously. Now I'm into it and play better than years ago. This video helped me get my snare at the perfect height. Thanks again man.

Nice one Rob. Perfect timing for watching this because for the last 2 weeks I've been going through this conundrum with the snare drum.

Practical sensible tips, I tried it and I found the snare was already the correct height, however, it needs to be moved further toward the front. Thanks Rob

Great video, Beatdown! I've been playing Drums for 36 years. For 30 of them, I played matched grip. Six years ago, I decided to learn traditional grip, mostly to prove to myself that I could do it.
Turns out I really couldn't. LOL.

I still mess with it all the time, and still feel like I suck! Trying out the stuff in this video is giving me a reason to dig in and try again!
