Athens Scams: A Twist On The Scam Harald Baldr Exposed

Athens Scams: Two years ago the pickpockets on the Athens Metro almost robbed me. On this visit to Athens, I got scammed by a little kid in what is a similar scam to the one Harald Baldr exposed in his Florence Italy video. Don't fall for these scams like I did when you are in Athens Greece or anyplace in the world. Luckily I have video of me getting scammed and of when I confront the scammer.

My father-in-law was in a crowded subway in Paris. A guy dropped his change and my father-in-law bent over to help him pick up the change. As he was bending over, the guy tried to take the wallet out of his back pocket, but my husband was watching and pushed the guy out of the way so that he couldn’t steal the wallet. I hate thieves and scammers!

Hi I am from Athens. I have already mentioned that scammers, usually young gypsy kids, do this in Athens, in Harald Baldr's video. Also watch out for pickpockets in Athens. Micro crimes are a huge issue here in Athens.

Scam them back, put gum on your shoe and step on the spilt coins and walk away with their money.

40 years ago in Italy it was a common thing for a group of kids to surround you asking for spare change. If you dipped into your pocket and brought out anything one of the kids would slap underneath your hand. Everything flies and falls to the ground, then scooped up and gone.

It makes me feel sick watching this. You can't enjoy a trip to Italy, Greece or France. The officials of each of these jurisdictions may as well take a cut because, by doing nothing, they are facilitating it.

I was sitting next to this guy, 4 years ago when he did it in front of me! I was more impressed by his trick and blew my mind what people think to scam other rather than expose of report this guy. I hope someone will take care of them.

I have a friend visiting Athens, and got in to the same scam but when he went to pick the coins from the floor, another scam member pickpocket him.
the best advice is to just keep on walking, do not stop for any one you dont want to.

Happend to me too in Brussels. I was sorry and helped him to pick up the coins, but had no intention to give him something extra. A friend of mine, a local, was with me and he gave him something, but he also said to me that this is a common scam. Next time this happens I won't help them to pick up the coins and just ignore them and walk on. But, better they do it that way instead of stealing your phone or wallet.

I'm greek and happened to watch your video and for all those who are going to visit Greece, I have to advise them to not give a shit about these people. They are well trained scammers and if you kick their cup they usually start screaming and demanding money from you. This video is 2 years old so they weren't that well used to that scam and didn't really know how to act. Nowadays though they usually follow you for a minute until you give them some money. So I strongly advise you to really not give a single shit

This scam made me laugh because is the most harmless thing out there right now in Athens lol I'm Athenian and the city is turning more dangerous every year for the locals let alone the tourists

Definitely not the most heinous scam I’ve ever seen, he doesn’t seem to be requesting money, it’s more about them noticing his cup. Obviously however, with more generous, sympathetic tourists, that’s where the real dough comes in.
