This 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 has been refurbished in Carolina Blue over black vinyl and is powered by a 396ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. The original color is Carolina Blue which makes it a very rare car. Only 202 1968 Chevelle SS 396 cars were painted Carolina Blue. To date, there are only 74 remaining. This 1968 Chevelle SS 396 is the finest of the remaining 74. Equipment includes a black vinyl top, power-assisted steering and front disc brakes, air conditioning, bucket seats, SS wheels, a four-barrel carburetor, a dual exhaust system, and more. This Chevelle was acquired by the seller a year ago and is now offered in California with a window sticker, Protect-O-Plate, National Corvette Restorers Society documentation, North Carolina registrations from 1969, other records, and a clean Montana title in the name of the seller’s company.
The seller states that a recent body-off refurbishment included a repaint in Carolina Blue, which was reportedly a period special-order color in North Carolina. Additional exterior features include a black vinyl roof, replaced trim, a twin-dome hood, and bumper guards as well as black paint on the lower quarter panels, rockers, and fenders.
Replacement 15″ SS wheels are mounted with Firestone Wide Oval bias-ply tires. The car is equipped with power-assisted steering and factory front disc brakes, which include four-piston calipers. Heavy-duty suspension components have reportedly been added along with new old-stock shock absorbers.
The black cabin has been refurbished with components sourced from Legendary Auto Interiors and features bucket seats, a full-length console with a horseshoe shifter, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, air conditioning, and a factory-style AM/FM radio. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 42k miles, and state inspection receipts with mileage notations are shown in the gallery.
The 396ci V8 is said to have been rebuilt and has been modified with a PerTronix electronic ignition setup and a stainless-steel dual exhaust system, while the carburetor has been overhauled and the radiator has been replaced. Engine stamps, casting numbers, and the cowl tag are provided in the gallery below.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed TH400 automatic transmission and a 12-bolt axle with 3.31:1 gears, both of which the seller states have been rebuilt. Stainless fuel, brake, and transmission lines have also been installed.
A window sticker, owner’s booklets, Protect-O-Plate, National Corvette Restorers Society documentation, and other records are included in the sale. Walk-around and engine start-up videos are shown below.

Just had another dream about the 396 SS Quad, Posi, Candy Apple blue, black vinyl top bought brand new from David Gold Chevrolet in Manchester TN in mid 1968. Had Michelin tires put on it b4 driving it home. I still miss that car, even more than the '69 (with '71 engine) 383 Road Runner (beebeeb) I'd later bought. Orange with black non-refector hood that was a Cincinnati Bengals' who blew out original engine.
I'm a tom boy & appreciate real cars, even @ 78 😁. I sure miss the ride ❤.

Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)
