Traction Engine Accident at Welland Steam Rally

While filming the Heavy Haulage I captured this of a Garrett Traction Engine pulling a roller up the Hill at Welland Steam Rally the engine seems to be in high gear and comes under load causing it to start to jump this leads to the front axle falling away from the smoke box.

There was a pin that holds the fork to the collar stopping the wheels from falling out it was the top of the fork that broke clean off leading to the front axle falling away and the boiler to land on top of it.

Such a shame to see this happen on the Friday of the show before the weekend had started luckily it didn't seem to cause much damage to the boiler as the engine was lifted back onto its wheels with a hiab and it made it's way to the top of the hill and back down. To the engine crew and people who helped recover the engine you handled the situation in a very safe and professional way.

Well the front fell off in this case, by all means, but it's very unusual.

Bet you wished you’d put that split pin in now don’t you.
